OUTWARD>>>

Have you heard about one of the newest fields of study at East Carolina University? I receive a steady stream of emails from Dr. Calvin Mercer in the Religion/Culture Department at ECU. He has been pushing this for some time now. Here is today’s headline from Dr. Mercer’s email,  “NEARLY 1,000 PEOPLEBraved the rain to hear the “Father of the Near Death Experience” update everyone on his ongoing research into the phenomenon he “discovered” and named and has analyzed for 45 years. The official attendance was 928.” Consider this… people have an interest in what happens when they die! Well, guess what? We have the Answer to that question!!! I find it very interesting that Dr. Mercer would bring Dr. Raymond Moody in to speak on the subject! We need to share with those around us how they can know for sure that they are on their way to heaven. If they can discuss this at ECU, surely we can talk about it with our friends and family members. Pray as you go… the Lord will be honored as you tell others what good things the Lord has done for you! Jesus said to one of His converts in Mark 5:19 “Howbeit Jesus suffered him not, but saith unto him, Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee.” Go, share your faith and see what the Lord does… He can save them, we can’t!

I just looked at my calendar. Here’s what I saw… WE ARE ONLY 15 DAYS AWAY FROM OUR MISSIONS CONFERENCE! Imagine that! Just a few minutes ago, Tom Moye said, “A Missions Conference is like a revival.” Tom is right! We all need to look at what God is doing and where God is at work. Missions is certainly an area where God is at work in Grace Church! Get the details and be in your place. It all begins on Friday night, November 13 with a big roast beef dinner from 5:45-6:45 PM. We will have Worship Times and Mission Sessions on Saturday concluding with a Worship Service beginning at 2:45 PM. SIGN UP AT THE WELCOME CENTER FOR FRIDAY’S DINNER AND SATURDAY’S LUNCH. This is important because our cooks need this information to prepare. This is a family friendly conference. Our children will be taught by missionaries. Do whatever you need to do to make sure they are in their Kid’s Worship! Lord, bless you as you set aside this time for the Lord and for your family!

There is great joy in being part of a church where Jesus and the Gospel are the foundation for everything we do. My prayer is that we are focused on what God and His Word are focused on… the Gospel and Jesus! Amen!

John Piper said, “The Gospel is the news that Jesus Christ, the Righteous One, died for our sins and rose again, eternally triumphant over all his enemies, so that there is now no condemnation for those who believe, but only everlasting joy.”

“ENGAGE” MISSIONS CONFERENCE 2015 UPDATE

“ENGAGE” MISSIONS CONFERENCE 2015 UPDATE

Our “ENGAGE” MISSIONS CONFERENCE 2015 is just around the corner. We have a wonderful group of missionaries scheduled to be with us from Friday night, November 13 through Sunday morning, November 15. Our conference will begin with a roast beef dinner and a Worship Service on Friday night, November 13. SIGN-UP AT THE WELCOME CENTER FOR FRIDAY NIGHT’S DINNER AND SATURDAY’S LUNCH. The food will be great and the fellowship even better. You will get to meet our missionaries and enjoy a mission-focused message from Dr. Alvin Reid. Dr. Reid is a speaker you do not want to miss. He is new to Grace Church. His conference messages will be timely, no doubt! Dr. Tom Bartlett will be here as well. He is looking forward to his visit with us. He and Karla are former staff members and love Grace Church. Presently, Tom and his family are engaged in a new church plant just outside Washington, DC. Pray for these and others as they come our way.

“ENGAGE” MISSIONS CONFERENCE 2015 includes our children. Every session (Friday night, Saturday and Sunday morning) is family friendly and includes services for our children. This is intentional and purposeful. Both the Trapp family and the Gibbons family will be ministering to our children. Take advantage of this opportunity to educate your children about what it means to be a missionary. Your family is important to the Lord. This Gospel mission focus will bless you and your family!

If you have any questions, you may contact the church office or any of our staff members. Call or text us… our numbers are on the bulletin. God bless you as you worship our Lord today!

“THE LORD IS GOOD!”

Hello Grace Church!

What a beautiful day to reflect on the goodness of the Lord! The Psalmist said, “The Lord is good, His mercy is everlasting and His truth endureth to all generations.” These words were true when they were written 1,000 years ago and they are true now. Think about the “goodness” and “mercy” of the Lord. Daily the Lord pours these out upon His children. My friends, that’s you and me! Daily… He watches over and cares for His own! Psalm 136 explodes with these words, Psalm 136:1-3 “O give thanks unto the LORD; for H e is good: for His mercy endureth for ever. 2 O give thanks unto the God of gods: for His mercy endureth for ever. 3 O give thanks to the Lord of lords: for His mercy endureth for ever.” Church, we are the recipients of the love and favor of the Lord! Let that bless you as you make much of Jesus!

Pray for Brad, Seth and Matt in Belarus. They are busy, to say the least. Busy sharing Christ with our brothers and sisters there. Michael and Amy are adjusting to Kenya. they have been there almost two weeks! They are presently engaged in AFRICA BASED ORIENTATION. Their studies will last for a few more weeks. Looking ahead, pray also for our 2015 Missions Conference scheduled for November 13-15. As Christians, we are “called” to share Christ, to spread the Gospel. Greenville is ripe for a church to step up and make a difference. That church is Grace Church. Praying together for people that we love will bring us together around the Lord’s calling for our church! Yes, just as Paul and the Romans were “called,” so are we. Embrace the Lord’s calling and see the Lord use you beyond what you can even imagine.

Our Discovery Class began this past Sunday (10/18/2015). What an enjoyable time with friends new to Grace Church. Sunday our focus was “Loving God and Loving Each Other” from Matthew 22:37-40. If you missed last Sunday, join us this Sunday. You will meet some new people and make some new friends. That’s guaranteed!!! I hope to see you there. Call me if you have any questions.

Harold Ockenga gives us this insight from Romans 1:14, “If God saved you, you are a debtor.”

“I am what I am by the grace of God”

This past Sunday we began a new series of messages through the Book of Romans. In doing my background study I came across a few interesting dates. For example, Paul’s Damascus Road salvation experience took place around 34 AD, he wrote Romans around 58 AD and he was executed in Rome in probably 67-68 AD. The thing that struck me about these dates is this. Paul never became so proud as to forget that he was a “servant of Jesus Christ.” He also never forgot that his salvation was by the grace of God and that he was a “debtor” to God for His grace and salvation! Basically, Paul lived his life humbly before God and man! He could have become proud and arrogant as an “apostle,” but he didn’t! My point is this. Later in Paul’s life he said, “I am want I am by the grace of God!” Brothers and sisters we are what we are by the grace of God! GIVE HIM GLORY!!!
